You may qualify if your household has children under 15 or a sick or ill parent. The Immigration Department's (JIM) rules also say a Muslim employer may employ only a Muslim helper, a bankrupt person cannot apply, and one helper per family is the rule. Each rule below comes from JIM's Foreign Domestic Helper page, last checked on 4 November 2026.
A quick check against JIM's rules
- Your household has children under 15, or a sick or ill parent.
- A Muslim employer may employ only a Muslim helper. See can a Muslim family hire a non-Muslim maid.
- A bankrupt person cannot apply. See can I hire a maid if I am bankrupt.
- One helper per family is the rule. See can I hire more than one maid.
JIM sets a minimum net income for the employer and a personal bond, which depend on the helper's home country. Ask us on WhatsApp and a consultant will go through them with you.
Meeting these rules is not the same as approval: that decision rests with the authorities.
What if my family does not qualify?
If your family does not qualify, a part-time cleaner may fit better.
Who is the employer?
Your family is the legal employer of the helper, never the agency or any company in our group.
